Troop 701 is the oldest Troop in Daniel Boone Council- first chartered in 1916 as Troop #1. Meetings are held every Monday during the school year at First United Methodist Church in Brevard, NC. Meetings begin at 7:00 and end at 8:30. The troop normally has an outing monthly during the school year with a long term campout or two each summer. The troop size is approximately 60 boys. Troop 701 appreciates the support of our Troop Sponsor and the provider of our meeting place - First United Methodist Church.

Troop 701 has consistantly earned "National Quality Unit" designation, showing achievement in the following areas:

Adult leadership & training

Scoutmaster- John Dorner has been the Troop 701 Scoutmaster since October, 2004 and was Assistant Scoutmaster since February, 2002. Before moving to Transylvania County, he helped recharter Troop 407 in Hayesville, NC. He has been involved in scouting since he was a boy. Mr. Dorner works NC State University training the staff in using technology. He also wrote the program we are using for maintaining our troop records - TroopRecordBook.com.
