Brevard City Council Declares January 12, 2002 "Troop 1 Day"
 

BREVARD, NC - January 7, 2002–

Mayor Jimmy Harris and the Brevard City Council have proclaimed January 12, 2002 to be "Troop 1 Day" in honor and recognition of the many years of service by Troop 701 (formally Troop 1) and it's leaders to the youth of Transylvania County. The proclamation read as follows:

Proclamation

WHEREAS, Troop 1 of Brevard was originally chartered in May 1916, and has served the youth of Transylvania County for over 85 years; and

WHEREAS, Troop 1 was the first Boy Scout Troop formed in Western North Carolina; and

WHEREAS, of 42,957 active Boy Scout Troops in the nation, only 227 have more months of service than Troop 701 (formally Troop 1); and

WHEREAS, Troop 701 (formally Troop 1) is the longest continually chartered Boy Scout Troop in Daniel Boone Council, Boy Scouts of America; and

WHEREAS, Troop 701 (formally Troop 1) has proven itself to be a dedicated youth organization in support of character building, service to community and developing community leaders; and

WHEREAS, Troop 701 (formally Troop 1) has produced 48 Eagle Scouts, the highest rank obtainable in Boy Scouting; and

WHEREAS, Troop 701 (formally Troop 1) sponsored by Brevard Kiwanis Club and St. Timothy's United Methodist Church will be celebrating over 85 years of service on January 12, 2002.

NOW THEREFORE, we, the Mayor and City Council of Brevard, North Carolina do hereby proclaim January 12, 2002 to be "Troop 1 Day" in honor and recognition of the many years of service by the Troop and it's leaders to the youth of Transylvania County.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, we have hereunto set our hand and caused the Seal of the City of Brevard, North Carolina to be affixed this 7th day of January 2002.
